Transformation of a Simple to Compound Sentence

A Simple Sentence has only one subject and one predicate.

For example: Climbing up the tree, he plucked some apples.

A compound sentence must have two or more co-ordinate clauses, each with its own subjectand predicate.

For example: He climbed up the tree and plucked some apples.

If we carefully note, Here we changed the participial phrase 'Climbing up the tree' into the clause 'He climbed up the tree' and connected it to the original clause with the coordinating conjunction "and".

Thus a simple sentence can be converted into a compound sentence by expanding a word or a phrase into a clause and by using the coordinating conjunction to connect the clauses.

1. Besides being beautiful, she is intelligent.
(This is a Simple Sentence)

Its corresponding Compound Sentence will be:
She is not only beautiful but also intelligent.

Here, we transformed the participial phrase "besides being beautiful" into the clause "She is not only beautiful," and linked it to the original clause using the coordinating conjunction "but.".

2. In spite of his poverty he is happy.
(This is a Simple Sentence)

He is poor but he is happy
This sentence will be the transformation

Here, we transformed the participial phrase "in spite of his poverty" into the clause "He is poor" and joined it to the original clause using the coordinating conjunction "but.".

3. If the simple phrase states that a person must do something to attain a goal, the compound sentence will have the following structure: "person must do".or /otherwise"the person will not"

Example:
Simple: He must east fast to win the competition
Compound: He must eat fast or he will lose the competition
