Diversity in India

 

In India, we find unity in diversity. Many kinds of diversity occur in India such as Linguistic, religious, regional, and cultural diversity. Indian festivals and food speak of India's rich cultural and traditional background. Every region has its own food preparations depending on the kind of food available locally. Tamil Nadu, for example, has several dishes made out of coconut which is easily available in the southern part of this country. People celebrate their festivals also according to their local customs and rituals.

 

The common element in all the celebrations is that it celebrates humanity. Some of the common rituals, which are followed in most of the festivals are�processions in the streets, decoration of homes and sacred places, traditional folk song and dance performances, special dishes, flowers, and lights.

 

Linguistic Diversity In India

 

India has a diverse list of spoken languages. At least 800 languages and 2000 dialects have been identified. Out of these, 22 languages have been adopted as the national language. The language includes- Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Santhali, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu and One would think this variety of language would make it difficult to communicate.

 

But, on the contrary, respect for each other's language and knowledge of a common language like Hindi or English has helped people communicate with each other.

 

Religious Diversity In India

 

India probably is the only country in the world to have a wide variety of religions. It is the birthplace of Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, and Jainism. It�s among the few places in the world to have a sizeable Zoroastrian population.

 

The existence of churches, temples, stupas, gompas, and dargah like Ajmer Sharif, all reflect the amazing multiplicity of religious practice in India. The mode of worship is different but each teaches the same thing.
