What is Krishna Janmashtami?
Krishna Janmashthami or simply Janmashthami or Gokulashtami is a Hindu festival that is celebrated annually with great enthusiasm and devotion. It marks the birthday of Lord Krishna usually celebrated in the month of July or August. Hindu calendar marks the eighth day of the Krishna paksha or the dark fortnight that comes in Bhadon month.
Why we celebrate it? The story behind it!
The believers have faith that Sri Krishna represents one of the omnipotent human incarnations that signify Lord Vishnu. Lord Krishna was in the land of Mathura about more than 5000 years ago. The main objective of his birth and coming to earth was to fight evil and let the earth be free from the demons who have been exploiting the land. Moreover, his role was prominent in Mahabharatha. He encourages and promoted bhakti as well as good Karma. You can easily find all his teachings and faiths in the holy book Bhagawad Geeta.
He was born in a prison that came under the custody of his uncle, Kansa. Kansa was evil and was aware of the fact that Krishna will be coming to earth to end the rule of the demons and to save the earth from destroying. Lord Krishna’s father knew the intention of Kansa, so he decided to save his son of that evil. Therefore, he handed over his son to his friend. His a friend brought him up in Gokul where he was raised. Finally, Lord Krishna killed his uncle Kansa and demolished the evil.
We believe Lord Krishna’s birth happened during the midnight of a stormy, dark and terrifying night. That terrifying night resembled the rule of his evil uncle Kansa, and we came on that terrifying and stormy night end the rule of the demon forever.

The believers have faith that Lord Krishna is one of the most powerful avatars of the Lord Vishnu. In Hindu mythology, the Lord Krishna’s birth, as well as death, was hinted on the mythical writings. Since then he has been
worshipped as a child god. His advent to the earth holds a great significance as he is the slayer of all the evils that were ruling on earth and degrading nature through wrongdoings. He came on the night full of terror to bring enlightenment to the world. You can still find his sayings in the BhagawadGeeta

It gives us the faith and power of fighting evil until we make this world a better place.
How did my celebrations happen?
Back to the previous year, the day of Janmashtami, I was super excited and was all set to rock in my Lord Krishna attire. I got things prepared for the game of breaking the Dahihandi with my cousins and siblings. I was totally excited and waited for the game more than anyone in my family and relatives. Music was playing, and it was when my devotion overflowed, and I decided to start the game.
I got everything ready for the game and brought my siblings. I made sure to make them understand the rules to play the game as they were too small to play. Indeed, it was the first time they were going to break it. I took the handi and tied its top with a rope. Then I decided to hang it up on the ceiling where it must be hung til the winner knock it out.
The moment I was going to hang it, I missed my footsteps on the floor and fell miserably. The Dahihandi I wanted to hang on the ceiling fell on me, and I was like totally spilled with curds. They all laughed and then I laughed looking at all their faces. My siblings will not forget that day, as we cherish the fun time we had.
